🗂️ Shelf layout blueprint (step-by-step visual plan)

Design a Clean, Dynamic Display for Your Figma Collection

Figma figures (by Max Factory, distributed by Good Smile Company) are made for motion and storytelling. A smart shelf layout makes even a small collection look curated and cinematic.

Below is a practical, step-by-step blueprint you can follow for 1–3 shelves.

🧱 STEP 1: Define Your Display Goal

Before placing anything, decide:

  • 🎭 Action scene?

  • 🏆 Character showcase?

  • ⚔️ Hero vs villain theme?

  • 🌈 Color-coordinated layout?

Clarity prevents clutter.

📏 STEP 2: Measure Your Shelf

Write down:

  • Shelf width

  • Depth

  • Height clearance

Figma scale (1/12) usually needs 15–20cm vertical clearance for dynamic poses with stands.

🏗️ STEP 3: Create Height Variation (Very Important)

Flat layouts look boring. Add layers.

Tools:

✔ Acrylic risers
✔ Small boxes hidden behind
✔ Diorama terrain pieces

Visual Concept (Top View Layout)

[ Back Row – Elevated ]
   Character C Character D

[ Front Row – Ground Level ]
 Character A Character B

Back row slightly higher than front row.

🎯 STEP 4: Choose a Centerpiece

Every shelf needs a visual anchor.

Place your most dynamic or favorite figure:

          (Centerpiece)
     A B C

The centerpiece can be:

  • Mid-air jump pose

  • Sword clash

  • Spell casting

Everything else supports it.

⚖️ STEP 5: Balance Left & Right

Avoid placing all large figures on one side.

Balanced Example:

[ Left ] [ Center ] [ Right ]
 Sword User Jump Pose Archer

Visually distribute height, weapons, and energy.

💡 STEP 6: Lighting Placement Plan

Lighting blueprint:

      ↓ (Top LED strip)
   [ Shelf Ceiling ]

→ Figure ← (Side accent light)

Best setup:

  • Overhead soft LED

  • Optional side light for shadows

  • Avoid direct front flash lighting

Side lighting adds depth and motion.

🎨 STEP 7: Background Strategy

Choose ONE style per shelf:

✔ Printed anime/game background
✔ Solid color backdrop
✔ Minimalist white/black
✔ Diorama wall

Too many mixed backgrounds = visual chaos.

🧩 STEP 8: Spacing Rules

Leave breathing room.

Minimum spacing:

  • 2–3cm between figures

  • Leave motion direction space (don’t block swords or effects)

Overcrowding reduces impact.

🏙️ STEP 9: Multi-Shelf Planning (If You Have 3 Levels)

Top Shelf → Action / Flying

High-energy poses

Middle Shelf → Main Display

Primary characters / centerpiece

Bottom Shelf → Support / Villains / Diorama heavy

This creates vertical storytelling.

📐 Example 3-Shelf Blueprint

🔺 TOP (Energy Shelf)

  • Flying character

  • Jump pose

  • Clear stands visible

🟦 MIDDLE (Main Scene)

  • Centerpiece duel

  • Height variation

  • LED focus

🟫 BOTTOM (Ground Scene)

  • Villain stance

  • Debris props

  • Darker lighting

🚫 Common Shelf Layout Mistakes

❌ All figures in neutral standing pose
❌ No height variation
❌ Too many color clashes
❌ Overcrowding
❌ Lighting from only one harsh source

⭐ Pro Layout Formula

1 Centerpiece + 2 Support Figures + Height Variation + Clean Background + Soft Lighting = Premium Display

🧠 Advanced Collector Tip

Rotate poses monthly:

  • Change fight direction

  • Swap expressions

  • Rebalance layout

Your shelf will feel brand new without buying more figures.
